if you had been here

yesterday, you could have seen me give jesse his (belated) home-made birthday card.

it looked a little bit like this.

do you ever have those days where you have to step back and ask yourself how you got so blessed? i have been having a lot of those days lately thanks to this guy.

i really couldn't be more proud (of the husband, not the card. though the card isn't too bad...).

ain't no sunshine when he's gone

so, jesse is gone for the week. the whole week.

i know whining like this seems pathetic (because it really is), but let me explain. he was gone all last week. and i saw him for about two hours this weekend because of family commitments and my recent fondness of napping. he keeps going to boise to finish his mandatory free labor for school.

but see, jesse leaves with the sun shining, and no less than three hours later, i hear the wind howling and the rain coming in. coincidence? i beg to differ.

if i could have heard myself five years ago, this kind of whiny behavior would have been baffling. some more potentially offensive (but recently occurring) clingy behavior might include:
  • refusing to sleep in our new place until jesse can stay there with me. sure, there are creepy crafts crowding each room, and the place is really fit for senior citizens, but still. i simply refuse to stay at the place with my belongings and where i am paying rent until the husband can be there. i am surprised my parents haven't forcibly removed me from their basement.
  • retiring to bed around 9:30 because i don't want to do anything else. i seriously got out of bed to write this post. i haven't been in bed that early since elementary school.
  • talking about jesse so much that all my co-workers couldn't possibly handle another tale.
  • sending approximately ten text messages an hour or calling if i haven't heard from the man in more than three hours. when i approach the three-hour mark, i tend to assume there has been a horrific accident. then each unreturned communication increases certainty that i have become a tragically young widow, and the volume of calls exponentially increases. it's a wonder he takes any of my calls.
so this could be indicative of a few things. it could be that i desperately need friends. or it could be a testament of the fact that i continue to fall more in love with him everyday.

it's probably both. but for sentiment's sake, i'm going with the second option.

jesse, i miss you. call me when you get to boise. or now.

the white coats are coming! the white coats are coming!

excuse the lame title. i am feeling a bit tapped out, creatively speaking.

last night we had jesse's white coat ceremony. basically, this means that he now gets a white coat, and he is officially a pharmacy student. it was so nice to see him recognized for his hard work getting into pharmacy school. plus, he looks really cute in his white coat.

here he is being robed in the white coat of the pharmacy world...

signing the pharmacists' code of ethics...

forced group shot of the class of 2012...
prom photo with the wifey...
and finally, with the proud parents.
congrats, honey! you are the handsomest future pharmacist i know.

rising from the ashes

alright, so i may officially be the worst blogger in the world for the last few weeks. however, life has slowed down a bit, and it is time to rise from the ashes to my former blogging glory. rather than overwhelm you all with the amazingly exciting and significant moments of our lives for the past few weeks, i'll cover one topic per post and try to keep up with the posting these moments regularly.

as promised, here is some more on Jesse's graduation.

jesse graduated, with honors, and i am so incredibly proud of him. not only did i get to see the young chap take the next step toward his five-year plan (yeah, we have a five-year plan), but we were also thrilled to have both of our parents and all of my siblings make the trip to congratulate him. it was a truly momentous occassion. it was remarkably warm the day of graduation (95 degrees), and i felt like i was melting. i can't imagine how jesse felt in his robes and layers of shirts... yowza.

after the ceremony, i threw a fabulously exciting barbecue over at my sister's house (apparently our apartment had a maximum occupancy of five, so the twenty-something people who attended felt more comfortable in larger quarters).

of course, no celebration of a major moment in jesse's life would be complete without a borderline hideous cake made by yours truly, so i was obliged to follow through with this teal monstrosity (it was supposed to be bronco blue...)

by the end of the day, i think the past six years of hard work finally caught up to jesse. that boy was tuckered out.

i'm proud of you jesse, and i hope you enjoy the next two months of break. come august it's back to school with you... congratulations!

I'm Back!

Dearest Readers:

I'm sure the worry about my whereabouts has most of you deeply concerned. Fret not. I intend to take this opportunity to thoroughly update you on my recent doings and goings.

First of all, Spring Break came! Huzzah! My parents came for a few days, and we celebrated Easter at their condo here in Boise. We ate food, watched my nephews participate in an Easter egg hunt, and made merry. I wanted to document the occassion, so Jesse and I went to take a picture. My nephew Heath is Jesse's bff, and he was quite uncomfortable that he wasn't part of the picture, so he ran out to join us. Anywhere that Heath goes, his little brother Wade also has to go. His little legs brought him waddling right behind Heath (with no shoes on!), hence our picture as a lovely family of four... On Tuesday we went to Idaho Falls to spend some time with Jesse's family. Our timing was perfect as our new niece, Isabelle, came early on Easter Sunday. We were so excited to meet her, and we were not disappointed. She is absolutely gorgeous, even at two days old (I think she gets it from her Aunt Becca--even though we are technically only related through marriage).

Jesse is officially in L.O.V.E. I think it's because they have the same haircut.

(Exhibit A: Jesse and Izzie sporting the same hairstyle)
The Davis family also received a new addition on Wednesday. My brother and his wife welcomed their third child, Deacon (click on his name for a pic of the sweet baby). I have yet to meet him, but I am quite certain that he is absolutely charming! I happen to love babies, so two in one week is pretty exciting in my book (and apparently my family is trying to outbreed all of your families...).

Finally, dear reader, during my absence the most exciting thing happened. Jesse and I were looking forward to getting our mail when we arrived back in Boise as we are still waiting to hear back from some pharmacy schools. Jesse was forlorn to find he had not received anything from ISU (his first choice out of all the schools he applied to). About an hour later we decided to check our mail again, in case we received anything new and exciting. Lo and behold, Jesse had a letter from ISU. Lo and behold, he was accepted! I am so proud of him!I guess this means that we are headed to Pocatello sometime this summer... So, is this sufficient information, readers? Can we continue our love of blogging together?

Lovingly Yours,

Boo

speaking of the husband...

he has pharmacy school interview #2 tomorrow morning. seeing as he didn't have a pleasant trip to georgia, let's hope that this one goes a little better?

as i, like you, am nowhere in proximity of him this weekend, let's all try to send good energy (and prayers!) his way...

post to the script--who are the two readers who have voted for the becca to be a reject? if we are friends, unmask yourselves and apologize immediately! if we are not friends, unmask yourselves and let us have words!

The Greatest Love of My Life

(author's note: this post was, in fact, created on Valentine's Day. However, due to technical difficulties, this is the first opportunity I have had to actually post. Please forgive the time delay).

I know that I have blogged about Jesse quite a bit, but I am particularly proud of him today. And, since it is still Valentine's Day, I feel at total liberty to take a moment to reflect on what a lucky young lady I am to be married to him.

Lately Jesse has kept himself very busy. In the past six weeks he has applied to pharmacy school, started his final semester of college (taking enough credits to finish his BS in Political Science, minor in chemistry, and pre-pharmacy prerequisites), started up a BSU pre-pharmacy society (he's also the president), worked part-time as a pharmacy tech, and received two pharmacy school interview offers!

Not only is he an incredibly hard-working person, but Jesse is in every way my complement. He keeps me grounded when I tend to panic. He makes me laugh when I have no intention of finding certain situations humorous. He always tries to do what's right, even when its inconvenient for him and seemingly unnecessary to me, but his example of uprightness is so incredibly inspiring. And, perhaps most significantly, he joined me in ordering take out food and watching Lost tonight when he probably didn't have the 45 minutes to spare (not the most important thing in the world? Well, you get the point).

Jesse, I really love you (and I don't care who knows it). Happy (late) Valentine's Day, everyone.

starting the waiting game

i am pleased to announce that my dear, sweet husband has finally finished his pharmacy school applications. that's right, we are now waiting to see who finds jesse fit to wear the white coat. i fear that in the process of getting all of his applications done that he didn't quite get a break, but i am really excited for and proud of him.

jesse applied to four schools of varying geographical locations. however, my dad informed me that my mom has been praying faithfully that we go to ISU--approximately thirty minutes away from my parents' house. my dad then informed us that we would have little choice in the matter as my mother is a VERY faithful woman. who are we to argue against such stalwart obedience?

anyway, here's to my intelligent and hardworking husband! and here's to hoping (and praying!) that everything works out...

we made it!

yesterday jonesy and i celebrated our first anniversary. well, we actually began the celebration on saturday, but as we watched our nineteenth straight episode of LOST on our living room floor last night, i couldn't help but start to do that overly thoughtful and sentimental type of reminiscing that i am so prone to.

see, jesse and i have known each other since junior high school, but never in my wildest dreams would i have imagined being married to jesse. my relationship with jesse started in eighth grade when a friend of mine (who, for the sake of those terribly embarrassing junior high experiences we ALL share, shall remain nameless) was certain that she was quite in love with him. as you can imagine, anyone who even considered jesse as a crush option was immediately out of good graces. how we somehow progressed from that experience to an extremely close friendship and now to a wonderful marriage still baffles me.

i don't intend to get into the lengthy details of our story here (i'm saving those for my best-selling memoir), but i do know that our relationship is absolutely the result of so many small events in both of our lives that led us to where we are today. as our anniversary coincides so closely with thanksgiving, it is nearly impossible for me to not evaluate how truly blessed i have been in my life.

i am so grateful for a wonderful, courageous, hardworking, honest husband who commits to everything with exemplary conviction and integrity. i am so blessed to have a marriage that is built on such a wonderful friendship. most of all, i am so thankful that i have a Heavenly Father who loves me and knows me better than i know myself--who guides my footsteps down paths that often seem confusing and frustrating but even more often fill my life with such peace and happiness.

happy anniversary, jones. you are the greatest blessing in my life. i love you like swayze, cake, and puppies combined (times thirty trillion).

i'm only 30 days behind

this week is surprizingly light (which means that the upcoming weeks are most likely going to be certain death) in terms of schoolwork, so i decided it was finally time to fulfill my tagged obligations set in place by my dear friend ally flegal nearly a month ago. i was tagged by said dear friend to complete a survey about my husband. although this could be potentially embarrassing, i'll do anything these days to claim i have female friends, so here it is:

my husband

what is his name?
jesse arin jones (aka jonesy, honey, jester pester chicken molester--i didn't make that one up, you can credit his brother--or kitty)

how long have you been together?
it will be three years in march and a year of marriage coming up on november 18!

how long did you date?
we dated for approximately 1.8 years pre-marriage

how old is he?
jonesy is approximately 24.3 earth years

who eats more?
jonesy eats more in one sitting, but i constantly eat all day long, so it probably balances out.

who said i love you first?
jonesy. it was quite cruel, actually (but in a romantic way?).

who is taller?
HAHA seriously? that would be jesse by a long shot

who sings better?
well, jesse's voice warms my heart, but he is slightly tone deaf (not that i'm a regular britney spears or anything--i mean, i could never produce anything as brilliant as "gimme more")

who is smarter?
jonesy. in fact, i think he has been surprized by how unintelligent i can be at times since we have wed. luckily i bagged him before he caught on.

who does the laundry?
me. i love it. you would have to rip the (warm, deliciously fragrant) laundry out of my cold, lifeless hands.

who does the dishes?
usually jesse, but we try to share.

who sleeps on the right side of the bed?
i don't know what that means. jesse sleeps on the north side of the bed, and i sleep on the south side of the bed. also, our bed faces due west, if that helps.

who pays the bills?
that would again be me. i'm kind of a control freak.

who mows the lawn?
HAHA. again, seriously? who has a lawn at this point in their life (please don't answer if you do have one, because that would depress me). jesse is in charge of sweeping off our porch and killing all the spiders out there, does that count?

who cooks dinner?
usually mcdonalds. occassionally me. even less seldom jesse.

who drives when you are together?
whoever forgets to dibs out of it. which is usually me, but then jesse kindly retracts the dibs and allows me to ride shotgun like a true lady.

who is more stubborn?
i'm going to say jesse, because he keeps glancing at my work, insisting that i change my answers.

who is the first to admit when they're wrong?
well, i'm never wrong, so i guess jesse?

who kissed who[m] first?
tricky question. i refuse to answer (it was me, but it was a really long time ago--think 2002--and i was just out of high school, and jesse was really cute, and i had all those weird raging hormones they talk about in health class, and i was really confused about what was happening to my body, so i can't be held responsible for that (obviously). the second time we started dating, jesse kissed me first, so technically the answer should be jesse).

who asked who[m] out?
jesse asked me out. he's a gentleman.

who proposed?
that would be jonesy. however, i would be somewhat inaccurate if i didn't indicate that he certainly received a great amount of gentle prodding from yours truly.

who is more sensitive?
me me me me me me me me me me. why? what is this question implying?
also, jesse makes fun of me for crying at just about anything (church talks, queer eye for the straight guy, rory gilmore's high school graduation)

who has more friends?
i probably have more "friends" but jesse has more friends that actually spend time with him on a regular basis. i have cyber friends.

who has more siblings?
me. jonesy has but one. i have five.

who wears the pants in the family?
think of me in the right leg and jesse in the left. it's like a more advanced (and difficult) version of the three-legged race... but with two legs... well, four, but we're pretending to have two, ya know?

i would like to tag:
stephanie robertson, talia douglass, and angie rice
